As a keyboard player, I’ve always been a big Howard Jones fan. I was fascinated with how he used technology to craft his sound and music. (It’s why I enrolled in a week-long summer music production class at Kent State University when I was 16 years old).
Lately I’ve been playing some of his music for the kids — one of their favorites is “Life In One Day.” No wonder they love it — aside from the catchy melody, kids can certainly relate to the lyrics:
“The old man said to me
Don’t always take life so seriously
Play the flute
And dance and sing your song”
I mean, at their age — that’s what life is all about! 😃👍
My favorite line in the song: “Try and enjoy the here and now The future will take care of itself somehow.”
Somehow along the way, as adults, we tend to lose sight of the “here and now.” We might dwell on the past, or worry too much about the future.
Focusing on the past might bring sadness or regret; focusing too much on the future might bring anxiety. But if we FOCUS on the PRESENT, and where we are right now — we can find our true path and purpose.
What happens tomorrow is a result of our actions today. We learn from the past to do better in the present — so we can succeed in the future.
It’s a new day, a new week — FOCUS on the here and now. The future WILL take care of itself, somehow. 🙏❤️
