Sometimes it’s easy to get SO focused on our goals or what we WANT to achieve that we lose sight of what we HAVE and what we’ve already ACCOMPLISHED. I mean, you’ve already come THIS far, haven’t you?

Think about it: the things you have now are the things you wanted yesterday. We are constantly evolving. Our wants and needs change all the time.

APPRECIATION is “recognition and enjoyment of the good qualities of someone or something.”

Find the GOOD. Recognize how FAR you’ve come — and be GRATEFUL for your journey so far.

GRATITUDE is defined as “the quality of being thankful; readiness to show appreciation for and to return kindness.”

#MondayMotivation “What to Wear Today? How About Your AWESOME?”

For the past year or so, there’s been little desire to bother with wearing things like, say, pants. Except maybe yoga pants. (Although I don’t think anyone wants to see ME wearing those...) 🙅‍♂️

Loungewear and/or sweatpants has been THE go-to attire for most of us. “Business attire” for many has been what I like to call the “Zoom suit” — business up top, and shorts or sweatpants (or no pants) below. I’ll be honest — I can certainly appreciate a fine suit — but I definitely don’t miss wearing one every day. 👔

Now that we’re finally able to *GASP* meet FACE-TO-FACE again (and might need to make ourselves look somewhat “presentable”), there’s one accessory that has never let me down — CONFIDENCE.

Whether you’re in the boardroom or on stage, it’s the one thing that will instantly make ANYONE feel MUCH better, in any situation. Guaranteed.

When times are tough, it can be hard to find. But like a missing cuff link or earring, once you find it, it just sort of completes your whole “look.” More importantly, it can change your entire OUTlook as well.

Wherever this week takes you, go CONFIDENTLY. Whatever you wear, don’t forget your AWESOME. 🤩

#WednesdayWisdom: The Smallest Steps Cover the Most Distance. 👣

Lately Sofia has been very curious about Daddy’s feet. She knows that — like my hands — they look “different” from hers.

Thanks to my collapsed arches, my feet point outward and my toes overlap. My bunions are at almost 90-degree angles. The damage and deformities in my feet look very similar to my hands. Some of the joints are bent backwards — for me, a short walk feels like making a fist and walking on your knuckles for miles. My toes are frequently calloused and sore.

To be honest, it can be painful to wear shoes, let alone stand up — but ironically, I can’t stand on hard floors without them. Strangely enough, standing barefoot on soft carpet or even in the grass feels AMAZING! (Walking in the sand on the beach feels pretty good, too...)

Sofia knows that Daddy’s feet didn’t always look this way. I covered a lot of miles with my “old feet,” before they changed. Now, I just appreciate each step a little more.

No matter what you’re facing, every little step counts. Look at all of the steps you’ve taken to get to where you are right now! Some strides might be longer than others. Maybe you’ve even had to tip-toe a few times... The point is, you’re still moving forward.

I’ve got a lot of road still to travel with my “special feet” — I look forward to celebrating every step along the way. You should, too. 👣

Don’t be afraid to fail. There are plenty of people out there who are trying and failing — but slowly moving ahead. It’s better to do that than to never try at all!

Amazing menu tasting last night at Metropole in the 21c Museum Hotel in downtown Cincinnati!

New executive chef (and Cincinnati native) Kam Losonsky knocked it out of the park — with tasty dishes like the seared Hokkaido scallops, grilled octopus (served with grits!), pork loin “schnitzel,” roasted halibut and grilled ribeye!

We also enjoyed a “Nightcap at the Museum,” and tour of the “supernatural” artwork on display with 21c Cincinnati GM Shelley Meszoly, and COO Sarah Robbins.

And of course, the lighting in the men’s room was stellar — so I had to snap a pic. 😄

For Throwback Thursday — going back to 2015 when Lola came to visit me on Good Day Columbus!

Columbus viewers might remember that Amy did regular segments on GDC as the “Queen of Chic,” and would bring Lola with her to the studio. (She even took some of her first steps behind the scenes!)

This particular photo was taken right after I had returned to work from bilateral knee replacement surgery. I had both knees replaced on February 10, 2015 — after having both hips replaced 15 months earlier on December 2, 2013. I was given three months to recover — but pushed myself to come back after just two.

I remember what a struggle it was — physically and emotionally — to get back to work, wondering what kind of daddy I could be for Lola Jean… after enduring so much over the previous couple of years, just to become a dad.

Fast forward nine years, and I still occasionally ask myself that same question — “what kind of dad can I be?” But now, as a father of THREE, I think I might finally have an answer: “the best dad I can be.”

It’s not always easy. I try to keep a positive attitude, even when my RA rears its ugly head. But I also try to make sure our kids understand what daddy’s dealing with — in the hopes that it will make them more accepting of others who might be going through something similar.

It’s hard to believe that Lola will be TEN this year! I am SO grateful for the journey so far, and the perspective it has given me. This Arthritis Awareness Month, I hope that by sharing these stories of my own personal journey, others will be able to realize that they are not alone.

I’ve been blessed to meet so many inspiring people along the way who have encouraged ME to NEVER GIVE UP. I guess I just want to return the favor. 🙏♥️ #PSNeverGiveUp

Some arthritis facts:

• Arthritis is the leading cause of disability in the U.S.

• There are more than 100 different kinds of arthritis.

• Nearly 60 million Americans live with some form of arthritis.

• Kids get arthritis, too.

• Rheumatoid Arthritis can also affect the eyes, heart and circulatory system and/or the lungs.

• Up to 22% of RA patients live with depression.

• There is no cure for arthritis.

I had a great time emceeing the 2024 West Chester

I had a great time emceeing the 2024 West Chester Liberty Chamber Alliance Everest Award ceremony at the Cincinnati Marriott North last night!

The Everest Award honors “leaders and legends” along the I-75 corridor between Cincinnati and Dayton. This year’s honorees are Joni Fedders, President of Aileron; retired State Representative Margy Conditt; and FC Cincinnati co-CEO Jeff Berding.

It was great catching up with friend and featured speaker Mark LaRosa — President and Chief Culinary Officer of LaRosa’s Family Pizzeria — and former LaRosa’s CEO T.D. Hughes.

Also good to see Butler County Auditor Nancy Nix and State Senator George Lang.

The Chamber Alliance also presented WCPO 9 Vice-President and General Manager Jeff Brogan with a plaque commemorating WCPO’s 75th anniversary this year.

This is what a rheumatoid arthritis flare looks like.

That is to say, it doesn’t really LOOK like anything. You can’t SEE a flare-up… but you can definitely FEEL it. On the outside, most people would never know you’re in pain. And not the every minute of every day kind of pain that you learn to tolerate when you have RA… but real, intense, all-encompassing pain.

See, those of us with RA are ALWAYS in pain. We live with it daily. So when we SAY we’re in pain, you can bet that it REALLY hurts.

I haven’t had a noticeable flare in quite some time — but today, it’s hitting me hard. I knew the moment I woke up this morning, it would be tough to get moving, let alone get through the day. The truth is, when flares hit — you really don’t feel like doing much of anything.

It’s hard to explain exactly what a flare feels like… Sometimes, I feel feverish and might look a little flushed. Every joint in my body feels achy and swollen — like balloons full of sharp sand. It kind of feels like I’m floating in some sort of thick gel — and everything hurts.

The fatigue and exhaustion is crippling. You don’t really feel like doing anything at all. The brain fog is intense. It’s hard to think at all, let alone focus your thoughts and attention. All I want to do is rest, and wait for it to pass.

It hurts to walk. It hurts to stand. It hurts to sit. It hurts to just… be. As you can imagine, it can feel incredibly isolating — because no one can actually SEE what’s causing your pain. And you don’t say anything, because you don’t want to sound like you’re “complaining.”

If you’re a fellow RA warrior or live with any other type of chronic pain or chronic illness, just know that *I* see you, and you’re not alone in your battles. Just hold on. Know it will pass. And, as always, never ever give up. 🙏♥️ #PSNeverGiveUp
